Where is North Beach PAWS located? Our address is 2222 SR 109, just east of Hogans Corner. What are your hours? Our hours for cat and dog adoptions are by appointment any day of the week. A cat adoption coordinator is at the shelter every Saturday from 12 PM to 4 PM and dogs can be viewed on Saturdays during our garage sale hours. For cats call Kristine at 360-289-9448 or 360-589-7960 (e-mail plantspirit98@hotmail.com). For dogs, call Joan at 360-289-9694, or e-mail baushaus@coastaccess.com. We have garage sales almost every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Usable donations in good condition are gratefully accepted on Saturdays. Please call our shelter at 360-289-4350 to arrange for drop off of your donations on other days. We can not accept mattresses, Televisions, computer equipment, exercise equipment, or clothing. Is North Beach PAWS a government agency? No. We are funded by a blend of income sources including donations, garage sales, and fund raisers to support our shelter and animal care. What should I do if I cannot keep a pet? Pets are welcome at North Beach PAWS. Because our supply exceeds the demand, we recommend you attempt to find a new home with friends, relatives, and acquaintances. A "Free Pet to Good Home" ad is not a good idea because you have no control over your pets quality of life after it leaves your home. We recommend that any pet that is given to a new home be spayed or neutered to ensure that it does not contribute to the heartbreaking pet overpopulation problem. If you can not find a new home for your pet, there is less adjustment for it if you can keep it in your home while we attempt to find a new home. Space is limited at our shelter and keeping your pet until a new home is found also frees up shelter space for stray animals. How long are animals kept at the shelter? We are a no-kill shelter and keep pets until we can find them a forever home. Who is the North Beach PAWS veterinarian? We work with Stacy Steele, DVM, in Ocean Shores. The Ocean Shores Animal Hospital address is 800 Ocean Shores Blvd NW and phone number is 360-289-2030. How much does it cost to spay or neuter a dog or cat? Costs vary depending on the species, breed, sex, and weight of the animal, the difficulty of the surgery, and other factors. Costs can range from about $50.00 to more than $400.00. The cost of surgery is far less than the cost of proper medical care for a litter of puppies or kittens. Why should I spay or neuter my pet? Animal Shelters exists largely for the purpose of dealing with the tragic pet overpopulation in their communities. Every dog or cat born adds to the problem. Spayed and neutered pets live longer lives and are less likely to contract certain common diseases. Your veterinarian and the internet can give you more information about the advantages of having your pet altered. North Beach PAWS hosts spay/neuter clinics for pets of low-income individuals annually in the spring and fall. If you are low-income, we can also help year round with our spay/neuter cost share program. To sign up for the clinics or the cost share program call Joan at 360-289-9694, or e-mail baushaus@coastaccess.com. Proof of low-income status and North Beach or Ocean Shores residence is required. |
